AgQuip Background
The AgQuip Field Days, Australia's Premier Primary Industry Field Days, were first staged in 1973 in the centre of the Gunnedah Racecourse by radio stations 2TM and 2MO.
AgQuip introduced a totally new concept to field days - “a heavily promoted, shop-floor atmosphere, with no barriers between buyers and sellers, and all efforts geared to results - on site and as flow-on sales.” That concept has stood the test of time, ensuring success for AgQuip and its participants despite the challenges of drought, flood, recession and rationalism within the rural industry.
The first AgQuip attracted 69 participants and 30,000 visitors. Rapid growth in the '70s necessitated a larger site and in 1977 the move was made to a permanent, purposebuilt site six kilometres west of Gunnedah. This site can now cater for the needs of more than 100,000 visitors.
In 1978 BAL Marketing was set up as a marketing division of Radio 2TM to organise the AgQuip Field Days on a full time basis.
In May 1995, BAL Marketing was purchased by Rural Press Limited, Australia's largest rural publisher, and in 1999 had a name change to Rural Press Events.
Commonwealth Bank AgQuip continues to be a most effective direct marketing concept for many reasons -
• It is a commercial operation geared to results;
• It is staged in the centre of one of the richest and most diversified rural areas of Australia;
• It is organised by a team of professionals dedicated to service;
• It receives saturation promotion which impacts across the eastern seaboard of Australia;
• Organisers keep in touch with both the 'buyers' and 'sellers' in this huge rural market by means of questionnaires and face to face discussion with participants and regular surveys of visitors;
• The AgQuip representatives you deal with are the same people who help you set up on site and look to your needs at Commonwealth Bank AgQuip. The office staff who answer your phone calls, prepare your listings and send out the mailouts are the same people who are on site during the field days.
