Just over 200 people rocked the RFDS hangar at the Charleville base on Saturday night to raise money and have a good time doing it.
Flight nurse Courtney Bylet helped organise the Western Summer Ball, telling the black tie gathering the organisation relied very strongly on donations to keep it in the sky.
As well as offering a night of good food and dancing, the group honoured long-serving pilot Roger Ruddick, who will be leaving the service in July after clocking up 20,000 flying hours and 13 years at the Charleville base.
Roger said a third of his flying career had been spent with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and it was work he really liked to do.
Plenty were on hand to offer stories of his dedication, including fellow pilot Scott Owens, whose 10 years of service with RFDS was also acknowledged on the night.
“I did my apprenticeship with Roger and he’s one of the main reasons I’m here,” he said. “These blokes are something to aspire to.”
