The Queensland Country Life team are making their final preparations ahead of their Grow Qld North West Forum in Cloncurry next week.
Together with their sister paper, The North West Star, Queensland Country Life will host the open forum at the Cloncurry Community Precinct from 3pm on Thursday May 12. A free barbecue dinner will follow at 5.30pm.
The forum will feature a moderated discussion with a panel of local and industry experts who’ll debate the factors influencing business and community growth across the North West.
Queensland Country Life editor, Penelope Arthur, said she was looking forward to traveling from Roma to attend the event.
“The Grow Qld concept has really taken off and we’re hoping as many locals as possible will come along and attend next week’s forum,” she said.
“This forum is all about shinning a light on the issues that are holding the North West back.
“We expect roads, telecommunications, drought assistance, mental health and vegetation management will all be big issues and we’re looking forward to a lively debate on the best way for the region to continue to grow and prosper in the face of such challenges.”
North West Star editor, Derek Barry, said this was a great opportunity to discuss problems relevant to the North West and look at innovative ways to move forward.
“Ours is a thriving and dynamic region and I expect the panel to be full of great ideas about how the North West progresses in the future,” he said.
“It should be a terrific event.”
The Cloncurry panel will include: Elders’ live export manager for Queensland, Tom Kennedy, Rabobank North Queensland and NT regional manager, Trent McIndoe, QRAA manager, Craig Turner, North West Health and Hospital Service chairman and local beef producer, Paul Woodhouse, RFDS mental health worker, Georgie Woods, Cloncurry Mayor, Greg Campbell, CEO of Health Workforce Qld, Chris Mitchell, Mount Isa youth advocate, Justice King, Cloncurry beef producer, Don McDonald OBE AM, Mount Isa deputy mayor, Cr Phil Barwick and ICPA president, Kim Hughes.
Anyone concerned about the future of North West Queensland is urged to attend.
