It will be over-the-top glamour at this year’s Weengallon Pink Ladies Day as 600 pink clad women flock to the event in flamboyant race-wear finery.
‘Racing Pink’ is the theme for the 2016 bush charity event being held on Wednesday the 17th of August at Weengallon, 140 kilometres west of Goondiwindi and 60 kilometres south east of St George.
Weengallon Pink Ladies Day co-ordinator, Emma Montgomery, says while there won’t be any horses at Weengallon, punters at the luscious day of lunch and laughter will have plenty of chances to win.
The day, supported by Black Volkswagen Roma, starts with Fashions of the Field with the Aitches Boutique Best Dressed in Racing Pink and the McCartney and Creed Best Racing Accessory prizes.
Also for the first time ever guests will be given the chance to win two free tickets to the 2017 Weengallon Pink Ladies Day by attending the Talwood Races on Saturday the 20th of August.
“We’ve created a Weengallon Pink Ladies Day Fashions of the Field category at the Talwood Races so the ladies have the chance to show off their outfits twice,” Emma said.
To enter, Weengallon Pink Ladies Day guests just need to wear their same race-wear to the Talwood Races.
This year Living Silk from Brisbane are bringing their Fashion Parade to Weengallon.
“The Living Silk Fashion Parade has been staged in all the capital cities and they were determined to tackle the challenges of distance and red dust so country girls don’t miss out,” Emma said.
The champagne will flow as guests indulge in shopping at luxury stores then in the Toowoomba Party Hire Marquee a gourmet lunch that will be served to the tables.
This year’s guest speaker with be North Star breast cancer survivor, Pamela Schramm, who launched her children’s book ‘My Strong Mummy’ to help families like hers cope with the cancer journey.
Once again Panda Peals and Newport Apartments Mooloolaba are offering major raffle prizes and there is the chance to bid up in the Rabobank Decorative Art Auction.
“One of the auction items is a sculpture by award winning steel artist, Glen Star, who shot to prominence with ‘Erebus’ an 18 hand high steel stallion that was recently on display in Goondiwindi,” Emma said.
Weengallon Pink Ladies Day raises more than $30,000 each year, which supports the position of a local breast care nurse and the Olive McMahon Lodge in Toowoomba which provides free accommodation for country cancer patients and their careers.
“Every year loyal sponsors like Black Volkswagen Roma, Bentleys Chartered Accountants, Graincorp, St Hilda’s and NAB help us not only hit our fundraising target but also produce a wonderful day out in the bush,” she said.
