President of the Australian Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA), Shane Bishop, Garglen Brahmans, Gympie, has every reason to be confident about the forthcoming Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale (RBWS).
“The Brahman breed as a whole is certainly enjoying a lot of positive vibes within the beef industry," Mr Bishop said.
Mr Bishop said there were a number of influencing factors at play.
"First and foremost the seasons are finally turning for our commercial breeders who have been so badly affected by continuous drought," he said.
"Some of those producers will be back in the market this year to invest in some genetic sire power to breed some good bullocks.
"As well, the cattle prices are the best I have witnessed in a lifetime, and it is so pleasing to see producers getting good returns on the cattle market.
"Recently ABBA has enjoyed strong interest from cattlemen in the Northern Territory, and we are expecting buyers to be active at the RBWS sale.
"The live cattle export market continues to remain strong, with indications that South-East Asian countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam are looking to Australia for more cattle."
Mr Bishop said one of the highlights this year was hosting the 18th World Brahman Congress.
"This is the third time Australia has hosted the world congress, and I would have to say with pride that this year's event was definitely the best so far."
Brahman breeders had every reason to feel proud when Viva Mario, exhibited by Alistair and Pamela Davison, Viva Brahmans, Middlemount, and prepared by Terrry Randell, Crimun, was sashed the champion interbreed bull at this year's Royal Queensland Show.
“Mario's win certainly put the Brahmans on the centre stage, as it was the first Brahman win in the history of the RNA interbreed competition," Mr Bishop said. Viva Marion had been earlier named senior and grand champion at the World Brahman Congress under the scrutiny of a panel of three judges including international judge Fabio Jaramillo, Colombia, Brett Kinnon, Bungoona Brahman Stud, Clermont and Glen Waldron, Elite Cattle Co Meandarra.
