Roma’s female population received a big boost at the end of last week with the influx of 250 women of all ages for the annual Queensland Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network conference.
Participants were moved to tears and peals of laughter as keynote speakers and workshop presenters shared stories of inspiration, provocation and information at the two-day event designed to empower women working in rural communities.
One highlight was the announcement of the Strong Women Leadership awards, with 21 finalists selected from tough competition across the state.
Morven local and author Annabelle Brayley closed the conference with a speech on confidence, looking at the symbolism of a uniform as a means of empowerment.
“It means believing in yourself,” she said. “You have the power to choose how you live your life. Not choosing is a choice too.”
