THE Conlan family’s 1086 hectare (2686 acre) Tara aggregation McCabe and Bruan Park offers a highly reliable irrigation operation.
Located 8km east of Tara, the slight fall on the brigalow, belah scrub soil property has allowed the development of a water storage for overland flow, largely gravity fill, of about 2300ML capacity, with a catch from a ridge area in excess of 16,000ha.
Some 485ha has been developed for flood irrigation, with field size ranging from 80-180ha. At present 70 per cent of the fields are fallow and long fallow with fertiliser and manure spread ready for planting of summer crops. There is about 120ha of chickpeas. A further 365ha is used for dryland farming. It is possible to further develop some of this area for irrigation. The country has mostly chocolate brown, self mulching soils with some box country on the eastern side.
McCabe and Bruan Park is being sold through an expressions of interest process, which closes on November 25.
Improvements on McCabe include the main five bedroom home, a two bedroom workers cottage, grain shed, and old timber and steel cattle yards. Bruan has a three bedroom home, machinery sheds, and two aerated soils.
Marketing agent Clayton Smith, Elders, said McCabe and Bruan Park are been extremely well developed and managed.
“The soils, strategic location, quality development, layout and design allows for true broad-acre flood irrigation,” Mr Smith said.
“Structures and installation are first class. Catchment analysis and rainfall history on the property estimate that 400ha can be irrigated 86 per cent of the time.”
