Cat’s new silage defacer is designed to fit on compact wheel loaders, skid steers, compact track loaders and multi-terrain loaders.
The attachment cuts and shaves silage stacks leaving a clean surface on the bank and eliminating large amounts of oxygen penetration, which can cause mold.
It is available in three widths – 1.8 metres, 2.1 and 2.4m – and uses a heavy-duty frame to house a front-mounted cutting drum.
The drum is driven by a system of dual, hydraulic motors and dual, heavy-duty roller chains to optimize torque and reliability.
Drive motors are mounted behind the drum and within the frame fro protection and chains feature cotter-pin master links for extended life.
The 120 milimetre long hardened-steel teeth are arranged in a helical pattern for even load distribution and to ensure efficient cutting and facing, leaving a finely textured finished product for the feed.
To minimize drum stalling and material cling, the teeth are positioned at a precise angle.
Hydraulic pressure spikes are dampened by a standard cross-over relief valve, diverting high pressure away from the host machine.
