ROMA producers are preparing for the first store sale of 2017 tomorrow but not all were busy loading trucks.
Ben Whip, Roma Downs, Roma along with a team of five horsemen and women walked 700 head of Brangus and Angus cross steers this afternoon from the family property about five kilometres away.
The cattle walk is part of the family’s management plan to avoid shrinkage and loss of weight in trucking the animals.
“They come in here full with grass and water,” Mr Whip said.
The cattle were to be held until the start of winter but had to be sold earlier due to dry conditions.
“It’s reasonably dry at the moment,” Mr whip said.
“We had two inches on Saturday evening which has been a good start.”
A total of 3825 head are expected at tomorrow’s store sale including 2141 steers, 1216 heifers, 326 cows and 142 cow and calf units.
