PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has spent the day visiting Roma accessing the $70 million Hospital development and providing an update on the town’s new women’s shelter.
After spending the morning chatting with local cattle producers at the saleyards, Premier Palaszczuk attended a press conference at the Roma Hospital where the next stage of development will begin this month.
The Pathology Building, old nurses’ quarters and hospital swimming pool are set to be demolished.
The $658,000 demolition contract was awarded to Burke Industries Pty Ltd, Toowoomba.
Premier Palaszczuk said the hospital development was a historic investment in health services in the Maranoa.
“There will be further opportunities for local firms to participate in this multi-million dollar project as the work starts to gather pace this year,’’ she said.
“I was proud to announce the new hospital last year. It is part of my Government’s $180 million Enhancing Regional Hospitals program to meet the needs of the region and its people and to reflect the latest advances in healthcare and technology.”
Premier Palaszczuk also announced the opening of a tender for a suite of domestic and violence services.
The tender for $560,000 per annum will create 13 jobs in Roma and far west.
“While the shelter will be based in Roma, it will also support women and children from surrounding communities including Maranoa, Balonne, Quilpie and Bulloo regional council areas,” she said.
