CHARLEVILLE tennis supporters are still in with a chance of winning a Tennis Australia competition worth $5000 based on this year’s Australian Open winner.
After hosting a Free Tennis Day last year, the Charleville Tennis Club was entered in a lottery draw to secure a player at the grand slam tournament and was lucky enough to secure world number three Agnieszka Radwańska of Poland.
While Radwańska was a strong chance of taking out the trophy, she was defeated by world number 79 Mirjana Lučić-Baroni last night in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
But the club also secured Australian youngster Ash Barty in the lottery draw.
The 20-year-old returned to the tennis court last year after a stint playing cricket.
She is set to play her first Grand Slam third round match tonight against qualifier Mona Barthel.
If she wins the tournament, the Charleville Tennis Club will also win $5000.
