The president of a Queensland horse charity under investigation over allegations of donation misuse has stood down from her position.
A number of Save a Horse Australia properties across the state were raided in June last year by State Crime Command's Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad (SARCIS) after allegations the charity had misused donations. The investigation has been ongoing since 2015.
No one has been charged.
SAHA's former president Amanda Vella resigned from her position on Monday night to "allow this amazing charity to move forward" after she said she had become subject to the investigation.
"Sadly, we have been subject to some nasty rumours and now it seems the police are investigating me," she wrote on the SAHA Facebook page.
"I have decided that the best thing for SAHA would be to resign and allow this amazing charity to move forward, full steam ahead, while I fight the allegations."
Ms Vella told Fairfax Media she was unsure what the allegations were against her.
"I don't know exactly what they are at the moment, it is a hard one," she said.
"My solicitor said to me that it is just one of those things you have to deal with and wait and see what comes out of it.
"If charges are laid, it doesn't mean someone is guilty, it just means you have to prove your innocence.
"I haven't done anything wrong, haven't been deceitful, I just have to get through all this."
Ms Vella, who worked full-time at the charity, indicated she would head back into the workforce.
Save a Horse Australia would not comment.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman refused to confirm whether Ms Vella was under investigation.
"The investigation is ongoing," he said.
