THE challenges and opportunities that lay ahead as we seek to build beef export markets will be high on the agenda at this year’s Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association conference, which kicks off today in Darwin.
From senior economists, specialist beef analysts and cattle industry group leaders to agricultural scientists and politicians, the line-up of speakers is impressive.
AACo’s Livingstone beef processing facility is opening its doors as part of today’s speaker tour, while the traditional ladies luncheon is a full house.
Former Federal Cabinet Minister Andrew Robb will tomorrow talk about the challenges and opportunities for increasing beef exports into Asia, particularly China.
He will emphasise the importance of building relationships and supply chains.
The former Trade Minister will also focus on the importance of foreign capital investment in the northern beef industry.
Rabobank’s man-on-the-ground in Brazil Adolfo Fontes is also expected to garner strong interest when he presents on how Brazil is capitalising on the world’s growing demand for protein by pushing into established Australian markets, such as China and the United States.
Dr Ross Ainsworth will talk about Asian beef markets and Meat and Livestock Australia’s Andrew Simpson will discuss the global beef scene.
