GRAZIERS have another tech tool in their kitbag, following the release of a new comprehensive farm management system.
Maia Grazing combines land, animal and rainfall data inputs to generate a productivity outlook to assist management of stocking rates and pasture utilisation. It analyses the individual pasture characteristics of a particular farm and “learns” how the property converts rainfall into feed and liveweight gains.
The technology has been trialled with Australian farmers for the past 18 months and at the Durham Ranch in Wyoming, United States, which runs a herd of 3000 bison over 222,60 hectare.
Chairman of parent company Maia Technology, Alisdair McLeod, said the aim is to develop software to cover the entire supply chain.
“We wanted to be able to track our beef from genetics and breeding right through to the steak on the supermarket shelf, and of course a big part of this is grazing and pasture management and MaiaGrazing was born as the first step in this process,” he said.
MaiaGrazing has made its software compatible with wants third parties offerings.
“We recognise the power of the data we are collecting from producers… we want to bring together other agtech providers and products so that together, we can provide a one-stop solution for grazing management,” said Maia Technology Peter Richardson.
The software will be showcased at an event at the University of New England SMARTfarm on April 20, dubbed Australian Ag Tech in 2017: precision to decision for grazing. Speakers include Australian Farm Institute executive director Mick Keogh and beef consultant Bill Hoffman.
