An initiative by then-Isis Downs manager, Ian Duncan, together with Beau Anderson, to begin an agricultural show for Isisford, which has since blossomed into what organisers like to call the ‘best little show on the Barcoo’, celebrated its 20th birthday on Saturday.
Ian had attended the Tambo show and came away convinced that if that small town could run a successful one-day show, the community of Isisford could too.
It was an idea that was given the full support of the community and local council at the time, which past president Will Chandler said had been essential.
“To have a great show you’ve got to have a great community behind it,” he said.
Another former president, David Paterson, paid tribute to the contribution of the Chandler family, saying they basically gave up a week when the show was on, as well as donating transport, to get everything set up.
“It’s gotten easier over the years, and the shed has been extended to house much of what we had under marquees,” he said.
Proceeds from a wether trial funded the show in its early years, and it’s still going strong.
