THE grains industry will be in the spotlight at Queensland Country Life’s innovative Food Heroes event at Toobeah on Thursday, July 13.
Organised in conjunction with the Goondiwindi Argus newspaper, the informative event is being hosted by Dave and Alice Woods on their Toobeah grains business Coorangy.
The Woods will provide an insight into their progressive operation, west of Goondiwindi. This will include a comprehensive two hour farm tour, including seeing winter crops which are now in the ground.
Following lunch, an informative and interactive panel session will be held, involving a number of industry experts discussing the big picture challenges and opportunities facing the industry.
Sure to generate plent of interest is Grain Research and Development Corporation chairman and grain grower John Woods, who will outline what innovation looks like now and into the future in the $14 billion industry.
Alexandra Locke, the marketing and communications coordinator with the Grains and Legumes Nutrition Council, will be discussing the upstream opportunities for grains and pulses. What consumers want and how to meet those need in an rapidly adapting marketplace.
Also on the panel is Jeff Bidstrup from Bidstrup Farming, who will be explaining the role, importance and effectiveness of bio-insecticides.
