Fairfax Media has strengthened it’s presence on the Queensland/NSW border with the appointment of a new rural journalist at Goondiwindi.
The 21-year-old Hayley Skelly-Kennedy will be based at the Fairfax-owned Goondiwindi Argus and will write for both the Queensland Country Life and The Land mastheads and online news websites.
Hayley hails from a horticulture property outside Biloela and has most recently been working as a teacher aide while finishing a Bachelor of Communications through the University of Southern Queensland.
Educated in Biloea and at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, Hayley also spent two years working as a governess for a family at Muttaburra and six months working as a cook on Mount Sanford Station, Kalkarindji, in the Northern Territory.
“My life has always revolved around agriculture in some way but I’ve always loved writing and eventually I decided I wanted to be a rural journalist,” Hayley said.
“I’m most looking forward to meeting new people, exploring a new region and having lots of new experiences as part of this role.”
Hayley will cover a large region across southern Queensland and northern NSW, reporting on issues in sectors such as cotton, grains, beef cattle and sheep.
“I’m also looking forward to covering the many socials events such as race meets, charity events and campdrafts across the border region,” she said.
Hayley can be contacted on 0427 290 322 or via h.skelly-kennedy@fairfaxmedia.com.au
