There was standing room only to witness 92 bulls sell for $9016 average price and top at $83,000 during the Price family’s annual Moongool Charolais bull sale at Yuleba on Monday.
It was David and Lynette Whitechurch and children Amy and Blake, Four-Way Charolais Stud, Inverell, NSW who bought the sale topper for what is a new Australian Charolais top price at auction.
Moongool Lunar Rise, the two year-old Homozygous polled son of Silverstream Evolution from Moongool Rowena created a bidding frenzy the moment he entered the sale ring.
Weighing 1008kg and with an eye muscle area of 149cm sq, repeat buyers the Whitechurch family pushed hard and fast leaving Rolleston steer producer Doug Logan, Warrinilla the underbidder. Moongool Lunar Rise will be used by the Whitechurch family in their 150 stud breeding herd.
Making sure he didn’t miss out on his next choice Mr Logan paid $64,000 for Moongool L77E (P). Also a record price from the previous $61,000 highest priced Charolais bull.
A son of DSK GC Bronze Cross from Moongool Carmen 4, Moongool L77E was the heaviest bull in the sale draft and weighed 1180kg with an EMA of 153cm sq. Mr Logan who runs 1500 crossbred cows to breed quality steers finished his buying spree with five bulls to average $19,600.
John and Kate McLoughlin, Rainbow, Rolleston were active and finished with six bull to average $13,600. They paid a top price of $30,000 for Moongool L137E, a son of Airlie Easter, and $18,000 for Moongool Lone Warrior another son of Silverstream Evolution E168.
Both these bulls will be used over Brahman cows in Mrs McLoughlin’s Brahman Stud based at Rainbow. The other four bulls are destined for Roxborough Downs, Boulia where the McLoughlins concentrate on breeding for the live export market.

Mick and Declan Gibson, Gibson Grazing, Dalby finished with 21 bulls to average $5000 paying a top price of $25,000 for Moongool L597E by the home-bred sire Moongool Freedom. These bulls will head to the Gibson family’s Channel Country holdings to breed bullocks for the export trade.
Other big money sellers included Moongool Line Em UP who sold for $21,000 to Alastair and Jo McClymont, Burleigh, Richmond. Agents: Landmark, Elders, GDL and Hoch and Wilkinson.
