A STRONG draft of grey Brahmans kicked-off Brahman Week in style this year and the high prices were quick to begin rolling in with a sale top of $115,000.
The grey bulls wrapped up after lunch on the Wednesday, with 460 bulls selling for an average of $9084, a clearance of 92 per cent and a sale gross of $4,178,500.
Top priced grey bull was Carinya Hazelwood who sold for $115,000 to Owen Scott and family, Ruan Grazing, Clermont.
Second top priced grey bull was Carinya Hayden who was purchased by Andrew and Anna McCamley, 2AM Stud, Dingo for $70,000.
The volume buyer of the greys was Battlin Pastoral, Mallpunyah Springs Station, Tennant Creek who went home with 21 bulls grossing $86,500 for an average of $4119.
The third top priced bull in the grey run was the $65,000 Hazelton All Bull 4412 who sold to the Price family, Moongool Stud, Yuleba.
Also selling well were the following:

- The Kirk family, Carinya, Gayndah, sold Carinya Ironwood 554 for $60,000 to Robert and Mary White, St Lawrence.
- Kirsty and Drewe Curtis, Blue Blood, Mooloo, sold Blue Blood Regal for $52,500 to AMS Brahmans, Stratheden, NSW.
- Fenech Brahmans C, Wowan, sold FBC Hendrix Manso 961/1 for $52,500 to Yoman Cattle Co, Moura.
- CH and CT McKinlay, Bloodwood, Emerald, sold Chasmac Park Kody 420 for $50,000 to Sheildoo Brahmans, Narrabri, NSW.
- RM and BG Sommerfield, Maryborough, sold Brahrock Nacro 5645 for $44,000 to Villawood Pastoral, Biloela.
- Fenech Brahmans T, Wowan, sold FBC T Hudson Manso 065TM for $42,500 to the Griffin family trust, Charons Ferry, Ogmore.
- The EGO Partnership, Cedar Pocket, sold Ego Mr Graduate for $40,000 to Yoman Cattle Co, Moura.
- Robert and Margot Mifsud, Radella Brahmans, Sarina, sold Radella Mason Manso for $40,000 to Racesea, Sarina.
Carinya Stud’s Mitch Kirk said their run, which averaged $23,934 for 23 bulls, was rewarding and truly a “unbelievable run”.
“It’s the sort of run you would only ever dream about,” Mr Kirk said.
“Obviously we’re very proud of the cattle and it’s extremely rewarding after putting so much time and effort in, plus seeing our cattle grow from such a young age to where they are now as good quality sires.”
The top ten vendors were as follows:
- John Kirk and Co, Carinya, Gayndah, sold 23 bulls to average $23,934.
- DJ and NP Chapman, Oakleigh Park, Wowan, sold three bulls to average $19,500.
- D and K Curtis, Blue Blood, Mooloo, sold five bulls to average $17,500.
- W and T Fenech, Craigleigh, Wowan, sold four bulls to average $15,375.
- G and G Angel, Glengarry, Rockhampton, sold five bulls to average $14,300.
- P and J Newman, Rathlyn, Emerald, sold six bulls to average $14,000.
- E and J Mollenhagen, Mountain Springs, Mt Perry, sold three bulls to average $13,000.
- R and J Mifsud, Sarina, sold six bulls to average $12,666.
- G and J Hurrell, HH Park, Gympie, sold five bulls to average $12,100.
- R and B Sommerfield, Brahrock, Maryborough, sold 16 bulls to average $11,875.
