A NEW Year’s Eve Rodeo at Mitchell will be the first in Queensland for the Australian Professional Rodeo Association in the new season.
The 2016-2017 season ended on September 30 and the top 15 qualified for the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals in late October. Now all attention moves to the new season.
The majority of APRA rodeos in the first three months of the season are in the southern states culminating in the Christmas Run of five rodeos which start on Boxing Day with the Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo in Victoria and ends on January 5 with a rodeo at Finley in New South Wales.
The New Year’s Eve Rodeo at Mitchell is a new addition to the APRA program.
One of the best known riders from Mitchell down the years has been saddle bronc rider Greg Hamilton who has made it to the national finals.
Teal Ayers hails from Roma and will be a strong chance in cowgirls events. She was junior all around cowgirl winner and junior barrel racing champion in 2015.
