Hemp seed is rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 in the right proportion.
As of this week Omega-rich hemp seed can be traded legally, offering new opportunities for grain producers interested in growing this ‘superfood’.
The sowing of the first commercial crops are taking place now with harvest expected February-March.
Years of trialing the right varieties by Vitahemp founder Andrew Kavasilas, Nimbin, will result in 400ha being planted this season in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Half the new production will sprout west of the Richmond Range on the Upper Clarence.
All imported product will be irradiated, benefiting domestic consumption.
