Once again demand was evident at Charters Towers’ Wilangi Invitational Brahman Sale for strong genetics and large lines of herd bulls.
Held last week, the 227 bulls offered sold for a 100 percent clearance to gross $1,608,000 and average $7085 with Cambil, Glengarry, Lanes Creek, Raglan, Viva, Wallace and Wilangi Studs represented.
In the breakdown, 50 select sires grossed $557,000 and averaged $11,140 with a top of $34,000.
The peak of the day came with Cambil Everest Manso 4994 (JDH Clanton De Manso 313/8 Imp) (EMA 132 cm2) (836kg) who made to 34,000 and headed to Peter and Sue Hammer’s Annavale Stud, Charters Towers.
In the registered sire section of the sale 91 bulls grossed $625,500 with a $6874 average and a top of $31,000. The top of this section was again from Cambil Stud with Cambil Milton 4878 (EMA 142 cm2) (852kg). The poll sire was by Elrose Fair Play 9074 and was snapped up by Tony Fenech and family, FBC Brahmans, Wowan for $31,000.
In the herd bull section of the sale where buyers are presented with three bulls in the selling ring, the purchaser have the opportunity to take a pick of the pen or purchase one with the option of taking all three bulls.
This unique marketing style is not commonly seen, however, it provides buyers with the ability to buy large consistent lines of bulls to suit their requirements.
The herd bulls saw 86 offered to gross $425,500 and average $4942 with a top of $10,000.
The top herd bull came from the Wallace family, Wallace Brahmans with Wallace 32/5 (NCC Dupree 1486) who sold to Keda Anning, Reedy Springs, Charters Towers.
The highlights kept coming in this large lineup of bulls with the third top price of the day from AJ and Pam Davison’s Viva Brahmans with Viva Porter 1126 (Palmal Excalabur 5903) (EMA 137 cm2) (860kg) finding his new home with Ernie and Kylie Camp, Floraville Downs, Burketown for $29,000.
The next in the limelight was poll sire Lanes Creek WT Buddy 1839 (Elanora Park Wise Bubba) offered by Brian and Cindy Hughes, Lanes Creek Brahmans, Georgetown who was snapped up by Jordan Grazing, Kimora Brahman Stud, Capella for $26,000.
Not far behind was the $25,000 Wallace Mr President 33 (Maru Javas Manso) (EMA 141cm2) (768kg) from the Wallace family who found his new home with Keda Anning, Reedy Springs, Charters Towers.
Another poll sire in demand on the day was Lanes Creek WT Jackman 1843 by the influential sire Avee Jackson, Jackman was offered by Brian and Cindy Hughes. He was snapped up by Fenech Grazing, FBC Brahmans, Wowan for $22,000.
Volume buyers and repeat clients continued to support the sale right through to the last lot with Turley Cattle Company, Wandavale, Charters Towers taking home 19 to average $4555, Patrick Sheahan representing Tom Sheahan and Company, Valley of Lagoons, Ingham put together 13 to average $6305, Dudley Anning, Hughenden took home 12 for a $4210 average, Condon Grazing, Mt Garnet selected ten to average $9650 while the estate of ET Cunningham, Strathmore Station, Collinsville also took home ten with theirs averaging $6150
Being the sale’s 30th anniversary, the vendors last Wednesday celebrated the importance of such a milestone and the sales achievements.
Those involved since the sale’s inception were also acknowledged for their contribution to the ongoing success of the northern sale.
Selling agents considered that the sale was a very solid success enabling both stud masters and commercial cattle producers to purchase good quality bulls at affordable prices.
