SOME handy storm rain in the Freestone Valley near Warwick was keeping John Coleman and his offsider Ben Batham going flat out preparing country for a winter forage crop.
Mr Coleman said the aim was to knock out the weeds which had grown in the 40 hectare paddock following the rain.
“It’s good to keep on top of any weeds and to preserve the soil moisture,” Mr Coleman said. “There’s plenty of moisture there now, just as we like to see.”
The deep, black soils on the Sladevale farm Kingsford Ridge had previously grown a top crop of Aladdin oats. This year’s crop will be fed to Kingsford Ridge dairy herd.
The scarifier was being pulled behind a 135hp Massey Ferguson 8220.
