All Roads led to Rockhampton on the weekend as we saw the Beef Capital welcome riders from Brisbane up to Cairns and out to Longreach for the second round of the MPE Suspension Central Queensland Motocross Championships.
After months of work by dedicated volunteers and some amazing support from local businesses, Six Mile Raceway was the place to be with over 300 bikes competing for the coveted crown of CQ number 1. A few crashes and some upsets saw some of the series front runners pegged back on the series ladder and the series open right up.
With Rockhampton set to host the Queensland Titles on July 7 and 8 there were many big names who made the trek to to check out the track and competition, and they did not leave disappointed.
Central Queensland has an amazing talent base boasting some of the top riders in the country. To see these competitors in action with riders from all over the state, some of who have top 10 world rankings, was nothing short of magic.
As always the Senior Open and Senior Lites classes were hotly contested with Luke Weaver and Ryan Eden putting on a real spectacle. After four action packed rounds Ryan Eden eventually took the Senior Lites class and Liam Walsh the Senior Open.
To see these competitors in action was nothing short of magic.
The pace was scorching in the Junior Lites classes with Tye Jones, Jai Walker and Levi Rogers arguably providing the racing of the weekend. Local CQ rider Tye Jones eventually won the 4 stroke class and Levi Rogers, also a local CQ rider from Blackwater, took out the 2 stroke. The 65cc Senior Class was also one to watch with Jet Alsop, currently ranked sixth in the world, taking out the round. However it wasn't without a battle from young Dysart rider Wyatt Hair who took out second spot on the podium against some very fancied competition.
The next round of the series kicks off in Middlemount on April 28 and 29 with a new track and and undoubtedly lots more great racing. – Sharon Pease
