FARMERS are looking for efficiency, across the farm and in their engines.
Cummins, southern region sales manager, industrial and marine, Sam Rickard said engine technology adoption was a key driver of farm efficiency.
“Moving away from older fuel systems, into common rail electronics is a big focus,” he said.
“Farmers are really leading the charge on that, they see the benefits in terms of fuel consumption and up-time.
“They can’t afford to not be spraying, planting or pumping.”
Mr Rickard said key to increasing efficiency was to decrease down-time.
“Having the product there and the parts and service to support it, always available to them, is really critical,” he said.
“Cummins has 36 branches across Australia, a lot of them located in rural areas.
“We’re always there for support, we have 24 hour service lines and technicians.”
Mr Rickard was on-site at the Goldacres Expo, held in Ballarat, Victoria last month, he said the expo gave farmers a chance to reflect on technology advancement.
“We are the exclusive engine supplier for the Goldacres self propelled boom sprays and we’ve been supporting them for twenty years now,” he said.
“They have some of the original spray booms here on display, technology both from Goldacres and Cummins has come a long way.
“Our engines are fuel efficient, which gives Goldacres a competitive advantage.”
Mr Rickard said Cummins were also pumping up their irrigation range, releasing the F2.8 power unit for pump drives.
“We’ve released some new products from our Custom Pak range, specifically focusing on the irrigation market,” he said.
“The F2.8 has a power rating ranging from 35 to 54 kilowatts (46 – 72 horsepower).
“It comes both in the naturally aspirated and turbo-charged model.”
Mr Rickard said the F2.8 featured lower fuel consumption then other models on the market.
“It nearly halves the fuel consumption of similar products out there at the moment,” he said.
“It is also fit for purpose, compact and ready to go, it has everything you need bolted on.
“Customers will also notice it is very quiet and smooth, it really outperforms the other engines in the segment.”
Mr Rickard said Cummins now had over a dozen models for irrigation in the Custom Pak range.
“We have packages that go from 36 kW (40 hp) right up to 3000 kW (4000 hp),” he said.
“There is an engine to suit any pumping needs irrigators may have.”
