ANGUS bull sales may be commonplace in Australia but last weekend, Australian Angus genetics were on offer for the first time in Kazakhstan.
In 2012, Bruce Creek and wife Libby, Avenue Range, took on the major challenge of building a seedstock and commercial beef operation from the ground up with the Kazakh directors of Sever Agro N.
It has grown into one of the world's largest registered Angus herds, with 2500 females on the 7000-hectare property 50 kilometres south of the Russian border.
Last weekend marked another significant milestone, with the Black Angus Farm No 1 stud holding its first annual on-property production sale at Sever Agro N's Karabalyk property.
The sale attracted 150 people including some from Almaty which is 2000km on the southern border, and a group from Russia.
In total, 46 bulls sold to a $3650 high and averaged $3250 in Australian dollars.
The sale featured progeny of bulls from four leading Australian studs bought in the 2013 selling season.
The bulk of the genetics were from the DiGiorgio family's Sterita Park stud, Lucindale, including the $3650 sale topper, sired by Sterita Park G28.
Also represented in the catalogue were sons of bulls from Te Mania, Rennylea and Willow Fields studs.
The 180 heifers, 12-14 months of age, were offered as a run, with the first successful bidder taking them all at $3200.
