Minister for Health, Jillian Skinner, said the NSW Government would fast-track the consultation for the new Hunter Valley Hospital following its commitment of $20 million for the project.
In a visit to Maitland Hospital, Minister Skinner and the Member for Maitland, Robyn Parker, said the NSW Government would speed up the process of developing the much-needed new hospital for the region.
Mrs Skinner said she would ensure the completion of the Clinical Services Plan was fast-tracked and an appropriate site for the new hospital was chosen as soon as possible.
“There are clear challenges at Maitland Hospital and I know how desperate the community is to see the Hunter Valley Hospital brought forward so I have asked that the Local Health District, in consultation with clinicians and the Board, work to fast-track the completion of the Clinical Services Plan so that the process of finding a site can get underway,” she said.
“The NSW Government will look into the possibility of a Public Private Partnership arrangement for this project to speed up the process but this can only happen once firm plans are in place to identify what’s needed and a site has been confirmed."
Minister Parker said it was extremely positive for the community.
“The new hospital will be a huge help in easing the pressure on Maitland Hospital and greatly expand access to health services locally.”
