ROCKHAMPTON will host the 2016 Northern Beef Research Update Conference (NBRUC) in August.
Organising committee chair Libby Homer, a beef producer from Baralaba, is keen for producers to attend.
“There are 2.2 million head of cattle in the central Queensland region and there is significant investment and capacity in beef research, development and education in Rockhampton,” said Mrs Homer, a current member of the North Australia Beef Research Council (NABRC).
“The theme of the conference will be It’s time to connect and presents a forum for all researchers across northern Australia to present and discuss current and future work.
“It’s an ideal opportunity for producers to interact with researchers to access relevant research projects with real benefits for industry and individual beef operations.
“Our industry is forever changing to meet challenges and in turn relying on research to underpin our response to those challenges.”
The triennial conference will be held from August 15 to 18. It will look at where research has made a difference and how it is moving to keep abreast of the challenges ahead in the future.
NBRUC 2016 has a full program with presentations by some of the industry’s leading researchers and a comprehensive interactive poster session of current research across the north.
There will be a field trip to Belmont Station, showcasing some of the research being undertaken in the central Queensland region.
A formal dinner will host the presentation of the NABRC medals.
A passionate supporter of innovation, Ms Homer said there was a historically poor connection between research and production.
“The lines of communication between researchers and producers need to be strengthened and this is the ideal opportunity to start work on this,” Ms Homer said.
The Conference Organising Committee invites authors to submit abstracts for posters or three minute oral presentations at NBRUC2016. All abstracts must be submitted to the Conference Editor at nbruc2016@csiro.au by Friday, May 20.
