THE Quilpie property Burkobulla was placed under contract soon after it was passed in at auction on June 9. The 41,500 hectare (102,546 acres) property was offered by Ken and Hazel Walker and Gordon Walker and contracted to Andrew and Margie Hurst from Meandarra.
Burkobulla was initially passed in for $1.41 million at a GDL Real Estate Ruralco Property auction that attracted four registered bidders. Burkobulla has been held by the same family for 70 years and was being sold to dissolve a family partnership.
Described as a good mix of country for all seasons, Burkobulla has some 10,000ha of flood out country. The property is divided into eight paddocks and five holding paddocks and described as being suited to backgrounding, breeding, and wool growing. Improvements include a home, cottage, two set cattle yards, six stand shearing shed, quarters, workshop and sheds.
Grasses included Mitchell, Flinders, button, mulga Mitchell, wild sorghum, and blue bush, buffel as well as various other native grasses and herbages in season. Water is supplied by eight bores, six dams and a number of waterholes.
Burkobulla was marketed by Tony Lilburne and Andrew McCallum from GDL.
