NIPPONHAM Group’s Whyalla Feedlot at Texas has been named the Elanco Feedot of the Year during the Beefex2016 conference’s gala awards dinner on the Gold Coast tonight.
The 50,000 head feedlot, which feeds predominantly Angus cattle which are processed through the company meatworks at Oakey and Wingham, was also presented with awards for its quality assurance and product integrity systems.
Other finalists in the over 10,000 category were Mort and Co’s Grassdale facility at Dalby, and JBS’s Beef City feedlot west of Toowoomba. Grassdale won awards for its quality assurance and product integrity systems. Beef City was acknowledged for its environmental management.
In the Feedlot of the Year 3000-10,000 head category, the winner was the Camm Agricultural Group’s Wonga Plains at Dalby.
Other finalists were Mort and Co’s Gunnee Feedlot at Delungra, NSW, and Andrew and Tess Herbert’s Gundamain Feedlot at Eugowra near Forbes in NSW. Gunnee was recognised for its quality assurance system while Gundamain was honoured for its approach to product integrity and product integrity.
In the under 3000 category the trophy was presented to Tim and Tammy Stiller, Weeroona Feedlot, Guluguba. Weeroona was also acknowledged for its quality assurance systems, environmental management, and business planning.
Freestone Feedlot at Warwick was the other finalist and won awards for its product integrity and animal welfare systems.
Earlier in the evening industry stalwart and former Australian Lot Feeding Association president Malcolm Foster was presented with honorary life membership to ALFA.
More than 400 people attended the Beefex2016 gala dinner at Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
