Queensland Country Life has confirmed a Biddaddaba property all but destroyed by fire late last year was the multi-million dollar Wirraway mansion.
The jewel in the Scenic Rim’s property crown burned for more than two hours on Wednesday, December 28, destroying 90 per cent of the dwelling.
As previously reported, a man staying inside the mansion made a lucky escape from the blaze after being woken up by a smoke alarm.
The property had been extensively renovated since the current owners first bought the property in 2012.
Wirraway was put on the market in 2014 for $20 million dollars and again in 2016 for an undisclosed amount.
The 565 hectare estate included a four bedroom mansion with a grand ballroom, wine cellar, home cinema, gymnasium and library; a 30m pool; two guest houses and tennis court; two aircraft hangars, a one kilometre airstrip and a large machinery shed.
Speaking last year, Ben Forrest from property group Colliers International said the just about everything in the house was custom made,
“They wanted top quality in every part of the renovation, and they wanted it done perfectly,” he said.
“The house features the highest quality finishes such as imported Italian cornices in the ballroom, iron bark flooring, Catherine Martin wall paper and European appliances.
“The remainder of the property is utilised as a stud cattle operation, running Droughtmaster cattle.”
Requests for an interview with the owners of the property were declined but they are understood to be devastated by the fire.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said that due to the extensive damage to the buildings, investigators couldn’t determine a cause for the blaze.
