Motorcycle sales in Australia were up 6.6 per cent in 2016 on the back of a last quarter sales surge.
The total sales market numbered 114,783 representing a increase of 7073 units over 2015, registering the fifth highest sales result in industry history and the strongest result since 2009, according to data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
Of the brands, Honda leads the way with 26,276 units and 22.9pc of the total market that includes road, off-road, quad and scooters, and was followed by Yamaha with 21.7pc and 24,899 sales.
Kawasaki was third with 10,592 sales and Harley Davidson fourth with 9pc and 10,282 sales.
Suzuki registerd fifth with 8.6pc market share and 9924 sales.
Road bike sales were up 5.3pc over 2015 with Harley holding the dominant market position with 21.5pc.
Off-road bikes accounted for 35pc of the total market (39,710 sales) and was up 6.3pc on 2015.
Yamaha hogged the track here with 30.5pc of sales (12,090).
The ATV (quads and side by sides) market grew by a solid 14.4pc over 2015, with a total of 22,834 ATVs sold nationally in 2016.
ATV sales represented 19.9pc of the total market.
Polaris was the leading quad brand with a 26.4pc share, or 6037 sales.
Honda was second with 25.5pc (5832 sales), Yamaha was third with 20.5pc (4692), BRP fourth with 11.1pc (2524) and Suzuki fifth with 10.2pc (2337).
Inner urban cool dudes have obviously fallen out of love with scooters (and fixed wheel bikes no doubt) with scooter sales of 4486, down 11.0pc.
