Repeat and new customers saw the success of the Holzwart family’s Bauhinia Park Charolais and Angus bull sale continue recently at the Emerald Ag Grow Selling Complex where strong averages set the scene for the beginning of Central Queensland’s bull sale season.
Overall, the sale saw 76 bulls offered with a 96 per cent clearance and an average of $6646 was achieved during the sale.
The sale grossed $478,500 with the Charolais bull portion of the sale bringing $256,000 to average $6,919, while the Angus bulls grossed $222,500 to average $6180 during the bull sale.
Top price of the day went to an Angus bull, Bauhinia Park Berkley L319, a bull showing muscle and weight for age.
Berkley reached $15,500 selling to the Appleton family, Islay Plains Pastoral, Islay Plains, Alpha.
Close by was the second top price bull also purchased by the Appleton family in Bauhinia Park Traction L353 (AI) for $15,000.
The Appleton family continued to put a quality line of bulls together also taking home the heaviest bull in the mob with the $14,000 Bauhinia Park Thunderbird L13.
Third top price Angus bull went to repeat buyer Mark Davie, Greenlake Station, Rossmoya who paid $15,000 for Bauhinia Park Traction L282 (AI).
Traction was in the top one per cent of the breed for 200,400 and 600 day weights along with the top 10pc for his EMA.
Mark and his family report a large line of weaners were sold through the CQLX Gracemere yards achieving great results for their cattle, mostly by Bauhinia Park bulls topping at 426c/kg.
The Charolais section of the sale saw its top price bull, Bauhinia Park Legacy, a bull out of one of the Holzwart family’s best W31 cow lines reached $12,000.
The bull, who was in the top one per cent of the breed for 200, 400 and 600 day weights, found a new home at the Noble family’s Mistiview property near Clermont.
Second top price Charolais went to three lots all reaching $10,500.
The first lot in the ring for the day, a poll bull Bauhinia Park Levi, found a new home with Dan and Larissa Black, Langley, Middlemount, while Echo Hills Grazing, Echo Hills, Springsure took home the next with Bauhinia Park Ledger another quality Dozer son.
Following soon after Tony Harrold, Tolena, Emerald took home another poll sire, Bauhinia Park Layman, also for the second top price.
“It was an awesome result and we had repeat and new buyers, which is great to see plus we are very happy with the result,” Ryan Holzwart said.
“We aim to provide our buyers with a variety of types of bulls to hopefully fit our customers differing requirements” Ryan said.
The Holzwart family were very excited to have progeny of their bulls do well throughout the year in both the sale pen and the show ring.
In particular at the Barcaldine show, the Hicks family took out champion pen of bullocks, champion pen of steers and supreme cattle section exhibit of the Barcaldine show.
While at the Emerald Ag Grow sale Bauhinia Park bulls sired weaners weighing 333kg straight off the cow to return $1135 per head.
Volume buyers included Peter and Louise Hicks, Mulgrave, Barcaldine along with Mark Davie, Greenlake Station, Rossmoya and Undercliffe Company, Satellite, Springsure.
