MEAT and Livestock Australia’s slaughter report is back up and running in full, with quotes for all Queensland categories provided this week.
The Eastern States total for the week was down 11 per cent year-on-year, with a 36pc decline in the Queensland female category the largest figure.
The weekly report has been published for more than a month with large sections of no quotes after JBS Northern stopped providing figures.
JBS’s John Berry said the company was willing to work with industry on a solution and had now resumed providing the data.
”Our simple requirement is that if we collect data it must be accurate and usable,” he said.
Peak processor body Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) has said it wants to cease the weekly service and rely only on later-published government data.
The concern from the processor side has been downward pressure on end product prices coming from overseas customers as a result of open access to Australian market intelligence.
Despite AMIC’s position, members appear to be continuing to supply the data for the weekly report.
MLA, meanwhile, is continuing discussions with the Federal Government on the possibility of using its Export Production and Condemnation Statistics (EPACS) data, currently only available more than a month after the fact, in more timely fashion.
