Goondiwindi’s month-long Discover Farming festival came to an end on Saturday night with a black tie dinner.
Aptly named ‘Gather’, the evening brought together producers from the area who were involved in the region’s showcase for an evening of delicious, locally-grown food and beverages.
Festival gold sponsor, Sam Coulton, Goondiwindi Cotton, said the evening was about celebrating the event which showcased all that the region has to offer.
“Discover Farming has simply scratched the surface on what our town is capable of doing and producing,” Mr Coulton said.
“Tonight is just one example, and continuing to build awareness for our region and what’s happening out here is vital.
“As I look around, I see the humble beginnings of an incredibly exciting time.
“Five eyars ago, I’m not sure that we would have had the numbers, but tonight I’m confident.
“It’s time to brand our region and the products and services that we offer.”
Mr Coulton said it’s important to keep educating people about the food they eat.
“We need to teach the people as to how and why we produce the food the way we do, and why nature and agriculture go together,” he said.
“I believe the world is looking for transparency - they want to know where their food and fibre comes from.
“Consumers want to see and hear from people that have skin in the game.
“They want to trust the people who are feeding them, and they want to feel that we are doing the best for our land to sustain generations to come.”
