WILD weather in Western Australia’s Great Southern region has seen a series of bushfires burn thousands of hectares and threaten homes and infrastructure across the region.
There are two fires of particular concern, one in the rugged Stirling Ranges and one in the Napier region.
Reports have come in that at least one house has been destroyed.
The fires have come extremely late in the season, but a dry autumn, combined with lightning activity and winds over 100kph in parts has set off the event.
Heavy rain that impacted the south-west corner of the state did not make it further east, allowing the blaze to continue to burn.
Local residents are now hoping that forecast heavier falls for the area arrives quickly.
