THE Australian Lot Feeders’ Association is seeking to find the feedlot industry’s next up-and-coming lot feeder to enter its long-standing industry award, the ALFA Young Lot Feeder of the Year.
The ALFA Young Lot Feeder of the Year Award, sponsored by Performance Feeds, embodies passion, leadership, development and initiative and is designed to encourage emerging dedicated employees to contribute their ideas and vision for lot feeding at a national level.
The award has been running continuously since 1994 and has discovered some of the industry’s best talent.
Several past winners have given back to industry by way of representing on the ALFA Board over the years, including Stephen Reynolds, Grant Garey, Gina Lincoln, Geoff Cornford and Stephen Martin.
ALFA President, Tess Herbert, says ALFA encourages the growth and development of youth in the feedlot industry, and this award showcases the vast array of talent currently within the industry.
“The lifetime contacts and business networks that winning the ALFA Young Lot Feeder of the Year Award has brought to previous winners is testament to the personal and business benefits of this prestigious feedlot industry award,” Mrs Herbert said.
As part of the entry process, ALFA asks young lot feeders to consider current and future potential industry issues that could impact the industry and propose a solution to this issue.
“This process helps to seek and foster qualities that empower curious young lot feeders to think outside the square, to be bold in their ideas and continuously develop and challenge their thinking about the Australian lot feeding industry and its future potential,” Mrs Herbert said.
As part of the prize, the overall winner can choose to undertake a study trip overseas and attend the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation’s TRAIL Program for emerging leaders, on an industry sponsored position.
Three Grand Finalists are invited to present their industry issue topic at the feedlot industry’s premier conference, BeefEx, to be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds in October.
Young lot feeders interested in entering the Award are encouraged to visit the ALFA website (www.feedlots.com.au) to download an entry form. Entries close 6 July 2018
