TODAY was a big day for nine-year-old George Tucker, Gracemere, who finally stepped up and beat his dad in the show ring.
Competing in the led steer competition at the Rockhampton Show, young George took out the grand champion with his Limousin/Angus cross, Percy.
George got Percy about six months ago from Steve Hayward, and he said he liked him because “he’s fluffy”.
But the biggest win on the day for George wasn’t the broad ribbon – but the fact that he not only beat his dad, but dad didn’t even place.
“He got nothing,” George said with a grin, before saying he told his dad his steer was better before they even stepped in the ring.
Dad Will Tucker said he had been managing to stay ahead and beat George in the ring all show season, but got bested on the day.
The led steers saw a good showing, with The Rockhampton Grammar School and the Rockhampton Girls Grammar making up the majority of entrants.
