WAGGA WAGGA service technician, Connor Griffin, has been named Apprentice of the Year at the annual Strive Excellence Awards.
The awards recognise the best performing teams, dealerships and individuals across the Landpower and Claas Harvest Centre dealerships.
A fourth year farm machinery service technician, Mr Griffin, originally from Mangoplah, joined the Claas Harvest Centre, Wagga Wagga after graduating school.
“I wanted to get a job where I could use my hands,” he said.
“One of my good mates started an apprenticeship with another farm machinery dealership so I followed him.
“I’ve really enjoyed TAFE and got to compete as part of the Gifted Mechanics Team.
“The work is interesting, particularly working on combine harvesters and square balers, and am looking forward to working as a service technician.”
Landpower Director, Herby Whyte said Connor showed an enthusiasm and thirst for learning.
“Attracting and retaining apprentices is vital to the future success of our business,” Mr Whyte said.
“We are extremely proud to employ more than 60 apprentices across the Claas Harvest Centre network and Connor is exactly what we’re looking for in our service team.
“He has proven himself to be wise beyond his years and more than willing and able to help his peers.
“His quick wit and sense of humour have made him an integral part of his team and he is well respected by colleagues, customers and management.”
