Experienced beef industry professional Alex McDonald is the new executive director of the Australian Registered Cattle Breeders Association.
Steve Skinner retired from the position at the organisation’s recent annual general meeting in Brisbane, after nine years in the role.
Mr McDonald started his career as a beef adviser in the Victorian Department of Agriculture before taking up the reins as the national co-ordinator of field operations for Breedplan.
He spent 22 years as chief executive officer of the Limousin Association, where he also furthered his work in carcass quality and more recently in genomics.
He has represented ARCBA on the Cattle Council’s animal health, welfare and biosecurity advisory committee for the past six years. The culmination of this work saw him as recipient of ARCBA's prestigious RW Vincent award for outstanding services to the cattle breeding industry.
"He already has some 30 years experience with ARCBA and will take to his new role with consummate ease," said ARCBA 's president Dr Arthur Rickards.
