It was an exciting day for Molly, Lily and Ruby Bradshaw, Luckham Station, Winton, when they were announced as the winners of QCL’s ‘Win a Pen of Santa Steers’ competition.
Kate Bradshaw said her girls were stocked to win and she’s glad she remembered to enter at the last minute.
“We’ve been in drought for about five years now, so it’s been a long time since we’ve had a steer to sell,” Kate said.
“We've tried to save a few breeders and sell them off as weaners, but it's a bit of a novelty to have three steers in the sale.”
The ‘Win a Pen of Santa Steers’ were sold on Wednesday by GDL, Dalby at Dalby Saleyards and made 306.2c/kg for 638kg to return $1954/head, with half the proceeds going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The steers were purchased by JBS Australia.
The six Santa Gertrudis steers were donated by the Hatton family of Santahat Santa Gertrudis, Monto.
Brett Hatton said they were happy to donate the steers to such a great cause.
“You never know when you might need the RFDS, so it’s great to get behind them.”
