A SUCCESSFUL showing for WA in the national young judges’ competition has resulted in that state taking honourship of the Keast Shield.
The shield had been in the contention across the past week as competitors from across Australia – and New Zealand – competed in young judging, handling and paraders competitions, as well as the Rural Ambassador title, at the Royal Adelaide Show.
Agricultural Shows Australia chairman and immediate past-president of Royal Agricultural Shows WA Rob Wilson accepted the shield from Qld Ag Show’s president Estelle Drynan.
Qld were the Keast Shield winners in 2017.
Dr Wilson said the young judges competition was a great initiative.
“It starts at ground level, then to state, into national,” he said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for up-and-coming judges.
“It’s great to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm – the big winner is all the contestants.”
Competitions were held in beef cattle judging, beef cattle parading, dairy cattle handling, dairy cattle judging, meat sheep judging, Merino fleece judging, Merino sheep judging and poultry judging, as well as Rural Ambassador.
