The community of Stonehenge in south west Queensland is in shock with the news of a fatal traffic incident that occurred close to town on Friday evening.
Initial police investigations indicate at about 9.30pm, a quad bike travelling along the Thomson Development Road crashed into the end of a bridge, with the bike and 31-year-old male rider coming to rest in the middle of the bridge.
Later that evening, a vehicle travelling along Thomson Development Road hit the quad bike, causing the vehicle to overturn.
As a result of the incident, the rider of the quad bike was declared deceased at the scene.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
The Barcoo Shire Big Bash cricket tournament, held annually between Stonehenge, Jundah and Windorah, has been cancelled out of respect.
