New Zealand's trade minister will visit Australia on Wednesday (today) to meet coalition and Labor trade figures and discuss bringing the two countries' economies closer.

Trade Minister David Parker will fly in to meet his Australian counterpart Simon Birmingham in Adelaide.

"We will discuss the trade outlook for 2019, including the World Trade Organisation, Brexit, the CPTPP and other issues affecting the Asia-Pacific region such as progress on Pacer Plus and how we can work together," Mr Parker said ahead of the visit.

Mr Parker said Australia and New Zealand were doing "leading-edge work" to integrate the two economies into a single economic market.

"As well as being very positive for business, this work is symbolically important in the current climate of rising protectionism," he said.

Mr Parker will also meet Labor's trade spokesman Jason Clare.
