WOW, where did the beginning of this year go?
We've just finished up delivering the ALFA animal health and welfare workshops across the country with an impressive 250 lotfeeders and industry professionals attending - a record for ALFA.
We would like to thank our sponsors, ALFA platinum member Coopers and Meat & Livestock Australia for their generous support in delivering these workshops as well as our dedicated presenters for imparting their expertise and knowledge with industry - Dr David Frith of Quirindi Feedlot Services, Dr Kev Sullivan of Bell Vet Services and Jeff House, ALFA technical services officer.
The ALFA Margin and People Management (MPM) Program 2019 cohort met for the first time in Sydney in February to kick off the program.
The MPM Program is designed to provide lot feeders and industry professionals with a deeper understanding of how to manage a modern business over four facilitated two-day sessions across the year.
At their first session, the group learnt about building team performance and reflected on their own personality style through a session on DiSC profiling.

ALFA wishes to thank ALFA platinum member, Zoetis for their support of this first session. The group will meet again in Sydney on May 15 and 16 where they will sharpen up their professional presentation skills and cover finance fundamentals.
Did you know that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS)?
NFAS is an independently audited quality assurance program for the Australian cattle lotfeeding industry that was initiated by ALFA and is managed by AUS-MEAT through the Feedlot Industry Accreditation Committee (FLIAC).
NFAS aims to ensure that the industry demonstrates a responsive feedlot management program for continual improvement, particularly in relation to cattle welfare and the environment, whilst guaranteeing the safety and integrity of grain-fed beef.
NFAS was officially launched in 1994 and last celebrated upon its 10-year anniversary in 2004.
So, upon reaching this major milestone of 25 years, it's time for the lot feeding industry to celebrate!
ALFA will be delivering a full program of a celebrations across 2019 giving everyone a chance to participate. Keep an eye out for an event near you! All details will be posted on the ALFA website.
Finally, don't forget to save the date for this year's annual industry conference, SMARTBEEF 2019 will be held in Dalby, Queensland on October 2 to 4.
We look forward to bringing you a full program in the July edition of the ALFA Lotfeeding Journal.
