A 90-piece marching band was one of the unexpected benefits of rain for the Tambo Stock Show when its annual show took place last Saturday.
Show secretary Alex Hacon said the band from the NSW Central Coast had intended to make an on-property visit in the district after performances earlier in the week at Winton and Longreach but it was too wet to get there.
"They put on a great spectacle for us instead, so we were lucky to benefit from the rain that way," she said.
A total of 778 people came through the gates for the day of sunshine, a great outcome considering the Super Horse challenge and cattle section had been cancelled a month earlier due to drought.
"It didn't seem to detract from our final numbers, and neither did the rain mid-week," Ms Hacon said. "Considering all the other things on around the state, it was a great result."
The Sanderson family at Westbourne showed both the grand champion flock fleece, one of 56 entries, and the champion pen of flock ewes.
Another highlight was the AWN launch of its MerinoSnug provenanced garment line using wool sourced from sheep grown in the Tambo district.
What it means is that the garments boast a QR-enabled swing tag that showcases the wool growers who contributed to the making of the garment, their sheep and the environment in which the wool was grown.
A Fast Horse Race was also held this year and the $3000 purse was won by David and Debbie McCann from Banana, with Kelly's Last ridden by Charlie Prow.
