The Victorian Winter Fair kicked off on Tuesday at the Prince of Wales Showground in Bendigo with the junior judging competition.
It was a hotly contested event with entrants judging the animals and presenting their reasoning under the eye of the event's associate judge Jo Holloway.
A new award for young people will be given at the event, with points awarded from the junior handlers' and junior judging competitions.
Both competitions will still be judged separately with the same classes and awards but a new overall winner will be awarded.
The overall winner will receive a clipping frame donated by Belrue Farms.
The event continues Wednesday and Thursday with organisers reporting increased entries on last year.
Junior judging results:
Under 12 years of age: Sienna Ross, 1; Connor Tweddle, 2; Shae Tweddle, 3.
12-15 years of age: Mikaela Daniel, 1; Anna Dickson, 2; Aisha Railton, 3.
16-21 years of age: Trae Murray, 1; Andrew Gray, 2; Brady Hore, 3.
