On the back of Tuesday's weaner and feeder sale, Emerald agents yarded just under 600 head of cattle on Thursday, with most of the yarding comprising slaughter types. The offering of slaughter cattle was fair with a slight decrease on last week's rates.
Heavy steers over 550kg topped at 290c/kg to average 268c, while steers 500-550kg made to 295c to average 273c, heavy cows over 520kg topped at 224c to average 209c, while 450-520kg cows reached 212c to average 191c. Heavy bulls over 600kg topped at 280c.
The Ward family, Jabiru, Emerald, sold Brangus cows to 206c to weigh 493kg or $1017.
Gabe Hoch, Alpha, sold Droughtmaster cows to 218c to weigh 590kg or $1287.
Greg and Sonya Spencer, Mayfield, Willows, sold Charolais cows to 220c/kg to 698kg to $1538.
