Cows and calves make $1455/unit at Emerald


Most categories resulted in a stronger market at Emerald on Thursday.


Emerald Agents yarded just under 1500 head at the weekly sale on Thursday. Most categories resulted in a stronger market with light weight steers losing ground on the back of the quality on offer.

Bullocks over 550kg topped at 301c/kg, with steers 500-550kg making to 297c to average 289c, while steers 400-500kg made to 295c, steers in the 350-400kg range topped a 294c to average 277c, with 280-350kg types reaching 284c.

Heifers over 400kg topped at 259c, while heifers 350-400kg topped at 255c to average 252c, 280-50kg heifers made to 241c to average 208c, while heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 228c to average 198c.

Heavy cows topped at 228c to average 218c, while cows 450-520kg made to 226c to average 198c. A top quality pen of large frame cows and calves made to $1455/unit.


Bill Eyles and family, Capella, sold Brangus steers to 263c to weigh 290kg or $763. The Bettridge family, MT Wilga, Alpha, sold Droughtmaster cows to 222c to weigh 558kg or $1241. Stuart and Di Jeppesen, Olivevale, Comet, sold Charbray cows to 219c and weighed 573kg to return $1256.

The Sibson family, Cotherstone, Dysart, sold Brahman cows to 223c to weigh 515kg and returned $1149. Lawrence and Pat Hack, Rocklea, Alpha, sold top quality cows and calves to $1455/unit.
