THE top price of $10,000 was achieved twice at the Walmona Santa Gertrudis Invitation Sale a Truro on Friday.
In all, 11 bulls of 40 were sold during the sale, averaging $5318, while a 12th bull was sold immediately after at $8000.
Lot one, Walmona Alfred, was the first son to be offered of Waco Morris, who was bought by Walmona stud for $42,500 in 2017, and was bought by repeat buyers Yarrawonga Cattle Co, Wallumbilla, Qld.
The two-year-old weighed 860 kilograms at scanning earlier this month with a daily weight gain of 1.49kg, scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres.
Walmona stud principal Micheal Doering said Alfred was a standout bull.
"It's a rare combination of of a heap of muslce and meat with a reasonable amount of fat cover," he said.
Yarrawonga bought five bulls all up from Walmona stud.
Walmona sold nine bulls of 29 offered, averaging $4944.
This includes two bulls at $4000 to Philip Reid, Normanville.
Nangaringa stud, Loxton, also reached $10,000 for a last minute addition to the sale.
Stud principal Peter Fogden said Nangaringa Parker was originally set aside to attend the Sydney Royal Show but with its cancellation, the decision was made to add it to the catalogue.
The 2017-drop weighed 840kg, with a scrotal circumference of 43cm.
It was bought by repeat commercial buyers CR&CM Blackmore, Strathalbyn, who previously had a property at Hawker.
In all, the stud sold two of its four bulls under auction, averaging $7000.
Nangaringa also sold lot 6a immediately after the sale to Walmona at $8000, with Mr Doering calling the 2019 Royal Adelaide Show champion Nangaringa Nathaniel an "excellent heifer bull".
Seymour Vale also offered seven bulls.
With the government restrictions on movement, the sale was simulcast on AuctionsPlus, with 54 per cent of the winning bids throughout auction coming through the online portal.
Mr Doering said the COVID-19 outbreak did have an effect on the sale, with some buyers unable to attend, while others were showing caution due to the uncertain economic climate.
He said the decision to include AuctionsPlus was one more sales would likely take in the future.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Ag Solutions and Elders, with Nutrien Livestock SA stud stock manager Gordon Woods taking bids.
